The Characters

Each Character has been painted in acrylic on A1 foamboard, in order to translate as oversised playing cards. The bend of the board and quality of the execution are meant to be representative of a disposable value much like the nature of an everyday playing card, of no real value. Taking painting into a style of Arte Povera, and reversing it's authority of high value to be set upon a wall.

Which became another reason for the use of foamboard- as opposed to the natural strectched canvas- it then becomes sculptural as it is then an object that can be stacked and manipulated. Painting on foamboard also meant I could make use of both sides and print a 'card-back' incorporating a sense of historical design of  playing cards. Inspired by old print houses, such as Jaques of London, The Bloomsbury group and Omega press.

The designs of which merged with my floral works-

which can be found under "Works in Process"
